The tube tester dilemma was interesting, I wanted a TV-7 to replace my
Hickok 600, as near as I can tell the 7 is the military equal of the
600, although looking at the 7 have to wonder if its as versatile as the
600. Their was a TV-2 their, Do you really need all those meters, it had
no price on it and by now I have learned if their is no price on it its
better not to ask. looking at the complexity of the TV-2 have to wonder
what it was intended to be used for? maybe matching tubes for push pull
amplifiers? looks like quite a bit of overkill for checking 5Y3
rectifiers. did not see any TV-10 or TV-3 testers although did see a
couple I-177 testers for around $125 or $150 each. Was standing around
talking with a friend and he had a lot of military stuff for sale a
GRC-106 with replaced meters along with a lot of other stuff, and that's
where I saw the two people with the Geiger counter, they did not ask
anything just went and waved the Geiger tube over some of the stuff that
was on the ground and then went on. do not think it was anything
official, maybe their are Geiger user groups who are looking for things
to used their stuff with? The thing that struck me as odd was the tube
on the thing they were using was huge, maybe eight to ten inches long
and three to four inches wide with rounded ends.
