I guess your comments can be summed up by saying that Ham Radio is
changing. What once was the norm (Mil surplus) is now out of the main
stream. It is just human nature, nothing more. I started collecting as
the price of military equipment was next to nothing. $40 R-390As, $25
R-392s and $10 TV-7s. I am sure that I over paid as other list members
had the same items given to them. As for Dayton really starting on
Thursday, well all swap meets are like this. It is again, human nature.
It is just not worth the hassle to police the selling that goes on as the
vendors set up. Been there, done that.
As for your comments on the TV-7: TM11-5083 on page 18 has a chart that
"converts" the meter reading to micromhos. Simply put: For range B,
multiply meter reading by 25. For Range C, multiply meter reading by 50.
For Range D, multiply meter reading by 125. Range E, multiply meter
reading by 250. Piece of cake.
I saw you as I walked the outside flea market area around noon. You were
hunched over your Russian radio working the net check-in. Didn't want to
both you so I moved on. Didn't see the guys with the Geiger counters but
did see the guy selling them.
As for me, I mostly bought manuals. There was a gentleman selling
military manuals at $3.00 a pop. Bought several I have been looking for
some time and others just for kicks. You just never know. I spent
Thursday at Fair Radio, on a ladder, looking at things on the high
shelves no one has seen for 30 years, or so it seemed to me. Felt like
an employee!
Regards,
Jim

Maybe I am just disappointed because I did not get a TV-7, but just cant
bare to shell out over $300.00 for a beat tube checker that don't read
micromhos. Question: What's with the couple guys I saw wondering around
with big Geiger counters checking all the mill stuff?
