No- from what few Japanese pilot accounts i've read, they #1 would not be
cognizant of whether it was HF or VHF and #2 didn't respect their own
radio equipment anyway. More on this if you want.

But what Dave was asking about was Nipponese vhf radio monitoring
capability, not where the aircraft radios worked. ( 3 - 10 Mcs and 30 - 45
