How did the SAC Bombers communicate with command during the Cold War?
I know HF SSB was used but it's not always reliable during Solar disturbances or in the Auroral polar zones. Did they also use VLF communications of relays from other aircraft?
When did they start using satellite communications?
Were there any HF SAC ground atations in the Arctic? The May issue of The Lowdown, the Longwave Club of America journal, had an article about the Joint Arctic Weather Stations (JAWS) network. This was primarily used for weather observation but the article mentioned they also handled aircraft communications but didn't go into much detail.
I'm enjoying the discussions abour post WWII communications.
