Yes, ebay has indeed spoiled a few things.
Ebay has spoiled some of the likelihood that an item will wind up in a
landfill.
Ebay has spoiled some of the likelihood that an item will wind up at a
fleamarket to sell for a few bucks to jokers who think that an
inflation-UNadjusted 1952 price is still fair market value a half-century
later.
I have collected this type of gear for almost 40 years. When the gear was
common, I didn't have the finances. When I had the finances, the gear
wasn't common. I spent a lot of money traveling to hamfests, especially to
Dayton, for the sole purpose of finding items in the fleamarket. I
travelled several times each to dealers like Fair Radio, John Meshna, and a
few others I've forgotten. More than three decades of trying to complete
radio sets in my collection, most of them at one time common, through these
traditional means produced far far poorer results than three years of ebay.
One who hasn't benefited from ebay must not be even remotely serious about
completing any set that consists of more than one component.
I'm glad ebay has "spoiled" some things.

Mike / KK5F
