[Milsurplus] Using Old Radios

My two uncles worked in electronics during WW2; one was a radio operator.
They got me started with using surplus radios as an inexpensive way of
getting into Ham Radio
and learning the "innards" of a radio. I got my first boatanchor, a Wireless
Set 19, from one of them.
They encouraged me to modify the radio as they did during the war and to
use the sets.
I believe eBay spoiled the hobby. I equate "rarity and historical value"
with speculators who are more
intereseted buying and selling radios than understanding their functionality
and appreciating the technology of the time.
My two cents...
