[Milsurplus] cooling systems/freon/R-12/R-34, etc.

I find that the cheap consumer devices in things like coolers
etc. are seldom cooled well to remove the heat, and often
operated at their maximum currents, so that the individual
'diodes' start to burn out. The units I have removed from
military surplus gear is always over-cooled with larger fans, and
seldon has burnt junctions.

I'd like to know how many BTU one of an 'off the shelf' deviced
would remove for the same given temperature drop, humidity, and
power used. One thing is certain, better get a 3KW alternator!

One of the other gents commented on moving away from liquid
'refrigerants' to 'peltier' devices. Interestingly enough, that's
one of the things I'm working on....for automobiles. Since I'm a
thrifty guy, I'll ensure it's (relatievely) cheap and
(semi)reliable. Funny thing - in order to legally retro-fit and
experiment with a vehicle, I have to remove the existing
refrigerant (and the rest of the a/c system) at an approved
station...which has usually leaked out anyway... Bill KA3AIS
