Agreed,
BTW, while on the topic of giant, heavy displays, can anyone ID this unit? I had one
as a kid, 45 years ago, and if any of the info is off, please forgive the memory
lapses.
It was a display unit for a British (and possibly Canadian) radar set, The thing was
about 15" x 15" by 20" deep, painted a bright, medium blue. The CRT was circular,
about 10" in diameter with a yellowish color. The power required was odd... 80 V at
400 or 800 Hz, as I remember. The CRT was MAGNETIC deflection, with a rotating yoke
driven with a motor and big brass gears.
One other tidbit. I think these consoles were used in the scene in the radar room of
'The Guns of Navarone' movie.
Anybody recognize this puppy?
Thanks,
-John
