My 6th grade teacher gave me an AN/CRC-7 WW2 rescue set, and that was the 
start of  my fascination with military portables.

During a Boy Scout visitation to Pease Air Force Base (many a moon ago), 
one of the airmen said just that, when the 'chute opened, the radio and 
battery just kept going.
