Well, SCR-274-N sets, anyway. I doubt that there were all that many
AN/ARC-5 (Navy) sets talking to SCR-299/399/499 (Army) sets, except maybe in
the PTO.
Many WWII US submarines carried the TBL LF/MF/HF transmitter, and either the
AN/ARC-4, SCR-522/SCR-624 VHF sets. There's an interesting (but
unfortunately short) submarine radio operator's recollection at:
http://www.zerobeat.net/submarine/ . Doubtless most of the coordination
with aircraft took place on HF and VHF.
The web has info from many US submarine war patrol logs, which almost always
document some radio equipment and frequency use. One example is at:
http://www.ussbaya.com/patrol4.html
This log, for example, contains reference to VHF and HF frequency use with
aircraft (4475 and 4670 kc), ABK-BN IFF set usage, AN/APR receiver use
(signals intercepted on 156 and 305 mc; a request for a tuning unit to cover
1000 to 3500 mc), SD and SJ radar use, HF frequency meter problems (5 kc
off!), TBL transmitter, etc. Very interesting.
The frequency 4475 kc was used and mentioned so often in submarine war
patrol reports that "4475" paired with "submarine" is a good way to search
for these patrol reports on the web.
My AN/ARC-5 with AN/ARR-2 installation consists of a R-26 and T-20 fix-tuned
to 4475 kc, along side the R-28 and T-23 on the standard four VHF
frequencies that were provided in new units (116.1, 126.18, 140.58, 142.74
mc), along side the R-4A/ARR-2 homing set (246 mc).
