During the 1960-1963 time frame the USAF installed
four Mace missile sites on Okinawa. Each site held
four atomic armed birds.  Supposed to defend Taiwan.
498th Tac Missile Group.  I was in AFCS Group there.
A TRC-75 was located in the control room of each site,
and was to be used to communicate with airbourne
command post, or whoever, in the event that all other
communications facilities failed.  Such as taking a
direct hit from the enemy.  The antenna was a vertical
antenna which was designed for submarines.  Normally
it did not protude above the ground level, but could
be extended vertically through debris and whatever a
near miss would produce.  I never heard of the TRC-75
being a problem.  But I never heard of one being put
into a jeep.
