Well maybe some units took them to North Africa.  I read from Fred Link's 
memoirs that his '298s were @ Kasserine Pass too.  The one we lost

Link knew because a ex-army German ofc. congratulated him on his FM
radios @ an 1946 IRE meeting.

I've seen lots of North Africa footage & have never spotted a vehicle
2-way.
