I can't answer the green radio questions because the color makes my  
aircraft radios slightly bilious :-) , but I have seen at least two ATDs 
which had the Navy "Placed in Service" date stamped in the normally 
blank space.  They certainly didn't have a huge fan base out in the 
fleet, but the production rates of the Collins ATC in 1941 and 1942 
apparently weren't high enough to afford the luxury of waiting for them 
to get deployed.  For all its faults, the ATD was a huge improvement 
over the GO-9 and GP-7 that the ATC and ATD replaced.  Paradoxically, 
they continued to install the older transmitters in certain aircraft 
series, so I suspect it was an availability question more than anything.
