[Milsurplus] Dynaverters and P-12 base

Does anyone know what a P-12 Power Unit was used for?

It's clearly post WW II and painted the light gray color with an 8 pin ARC 14050
mating connector (white plastic), On top is a standard 3 pin connector for the
ARC-5 type dynos. Right now, there is a DY-10A 28 VDC input Dynoverter on it.

I'd guess there are some capacitors and possibly other components inside, but
I've not removed the Glyptalled screws.
