This REALLY frosts my fur. The people doing this project cannot have ANY idea
about how these boats were used. Perhaps their image is of McHale's Navy, where
the principal function was to act as a boat to tow water skiers. Fun, yes, but
ridiculous.
The same thing goes for restorers of vintage aircraft who shun vintage radios. I
can understand that a modern radio might be required by the government, but that
does not provide an excuse for stripping out all the original gear.
It's just like taking a seventeenth century grandfather clock and pulling the
movement and putting a Korean quartz one. Simply put, it turns an antique into
kitsch junk.
Apparently there is no understanding of the absolutely vital role communications
and navigation systems like DF and LORAN played in the winning of the war.
If I want to see dummied up stuff, I'll go to Chuck-E-Cheeze or Disneyland,
where appearance is reality.
