You have the name correct, it's Carillon. They still exist today, in a
much different version. I'd bet the same company made them for the
military. Couldn't have been a huge call for them.

I restored one of the civvie versions some years ago for a church.
This was an older unit, used 807s in the amp and had a player
piano-style roll unit in it for playing hymns, caroles, or what have
you. Six foot+ cabinet, medium brown wrinkle. Had a small metal bell
cut out on front that rotated about 45 degrees left or right when the
bells were in 'toll' mode, and a small keyboard next to the organist.
This particular model actually had small brass strips inside tuned to
the right note, with a pickup beneath them and a striker unit above.
Piped out through large University horns in the steeple/bell tower.
Apparently the thing had been silent so long that folks had forgotten
about it. When I fired it up and let it run for a while one night, the
neighbors complained. Sorta like the people who move next to the
airport, then want flights stopped at 9PM.

It included a primative timer unit with pegs you could install to
program it to play at specific times of day or night. Only part I
never figured out was how to tune the bell unit.
