We talked about this years ago, Mike, but I've forgetten your
position on this. Might make a good discussion.
My own position evolves over the years.
I can't stand to see a radio sit, silent and dead.
I'm at the "do as little as possible;
find work-arounds" place. For instance- I have no intention
of so much as changing a resistor in the only WWII Japanese
piece I have. I run it with lowered B+ and an external,
amplified speaker. It works fine. Same thing with my
remaining RAT/RAT-1 sets.
On my now-working TBY sets, I unsoldered one end of
bad componants and "tacked-in" replacements.
That also worked fine, and is restorable with only
a disturbed solder joint.
On the other hand, were I lucky like you to own
an RAV (envy envy), I would think hard about
powering it at all, at least without a very
through check-out, and would certainly never
put a soldering iron to it.
Is it your position that the sets should sit as display
pieces only, or what?
