Only explanation of what actually happened that I can think of
is that it was RF that fried the bug.  RF does NOT need a ground
to cause damage.

No amount of calling me a liar changes the fact that it happened.

Sure the open end of a portable vertical antenna is a high
impedance point and has a high Voltage on it. But for
something to get fried, there needs to be conduction of
current.

Your body is a big conductor connected to that pencil.

The dragon fly is not connected to any grounding body.
