Todd,
The Navy RS-38-(*) (NT-51004) was their general purpose hand-held carbon
microphone. From late '41 or so it was interchangable with the T-17. Before
that, the tip and ring wiring was reversed. When they changed it, there was
supposed to be a red band around the plug sleeve and a red ring around the jack on
the radio or control box. Later in the war, they don't seem to have bothered.
Variants of the RS-38 (with more contacts on the PTT switch) were used with
the MAB and the TBY.
