[Milsurplus] The MilList web site and other musings

Back a long time ago when we carved out modems out of
wood, there was a document passed around that was put
together Terry O'Laughlin, WB9GVB in January of 1995.
This original list contained about 1800 items, but there
were many pieces of gear that just weren't listed.
Bill Beech, NJ7P took the original list and with his resources
expanded it to the 4000 item list it is today.

Back in the late '90's I mirrored the list at my old defunct
ISP, Telalink. As time went by I added some specialty items
such as in-depth information on the R-390 and similar popular
pieces of radio equipment.
I still maintain this list - it's currently www.fernblatt.net -
and try to add assorted details about various popular
equipment. I still turn to NJ7P for info, though I really
don't keep my site updated with the newest of items.
His reference material is better, so I have a link to
his site for folks that didn't find what they were looking
for. He links to me as well.

I was going over my web site stats today and found
something mildly amusing - a "goodly portion" of my web
site traffic is from .mil addresses, with folks looking
for info on older gear. Just thought it was a good thing.
I'm sure Bill get the same thing, but this was really the
first time in a while I've actually sat down and sifted
through the piles of data. Just thought it was interesting.

73 and thanks for letting me ramble
