Hi John:
I tend to agree with you. BUT, there's no question that Tesla conceived
the idea of how to build an A.C. motor. Prior to that there were
none. And since having both A.C. generators AND motors is needed for a
viable power system Tesla is the father of the whole A.C. power system.
The prior DC system of Edison commercialized by G.E. was lacking by
comparison.
The reason I tend to agree is that Tesla did not understand high Q
circuits, which is what he built in Colorado. He thought he had a
multiplier on power, which is not the case. Note that a coil operating
at self resonance has a Q of 1, but when loaded with a capacitor much
greater than Cself a coil can operate at Q numbers in the hundreds if
it's constructed with this in mind.
The common classroom "Tesla Coil" is not a high Q device and is in fact
just a high voltage transformer.
