The higher frequencies were ruled out for good engineering reasons. The
higher the frequency, the more energy radiated from the power line and
therefore less energy available on the line. This radiated energy is energy
lost from the power provider and therefore no revenue to be gained.
The reason for the 60 CPS power may have been for synchronous motors for
clocks (60 seconds per minute and 60 minutes per hour).
