This is what I found to be true.  I learned the phrase " I do not speak 
French, do you speak English?" In every case I was greeted with 
respect.  The French are proud and expect visitors to be proud of their 
background.  As  I have said before on this thread, we must quit believing 
everyone must be Americans in their way of doing things.
