[Milsurplus] E-bay / a work of genius

I've lost money on shipping too many times when I used the online
calculator. And that doesn't figure in my costs for packing materials, etc.
So now I take an address in the furthest zone, add a realistic weight of box
and packing materials, then go on the UPS site and enter it all, specifying
it is a residential address. I then add a realistic amount for materials (I
get them from Staples) plus tax and put that in as a fixed shipping charge.
It is fully disclosed up front. I still get questions about why so high,
but since I have zero interest in subsidizing the shipping charges for
someone, then paying all the eBay and PayPal fees, it is what it is. Funny,
I have never had someone close by question the charges, just people in the
furthest UPS zones. On top of all this, I still end up losing a few bucks
on each deal in the shipping. Go figure.
