Hmmm...often it pays to start taking things apart BEFORE you 
have the manual. I found a complete schematic and parts layout on 
an engraved metal plate riveted to the bottom plate of the unit 
inside.

Very interesting. A "speech amp" and modulator with regulator.

Power supply is really robust: secondary is 1250 VCT at 177 mA. 
Choke input to a 5 - 10 H swinging choke, 4 mfd of oil-filled cap, 
another 10 H choke, another 2 mfd oil filled.

I suppose they didn't want hum modulation of their FAXes.

Does anyone need this thing? I ask because I have no earthly use 
for it other than as a source of excellent power supply parts, and 
interstage audio transformers.

If I don't hear anything to the contrary within a week, I'll start 
cannibalizing it.
