[Milsurplus] What is it?

At a yard sale found a interesting looking part of a metal box what 
seems to be a WWII era AM mode transceiver.  Marked US NAVY FTM, its has 
two front panel sockets for crystal control receive and transmit and 
looks to be voice only as there was a mic jack.  Seems to run on 117 VAC 
as there was a male AC plug for power.

The seller, an old radio repair type, said he had been told it was a 
Beach Master Portable set used to command and control landing craft and 
report back to the off shore ships.  I'm not sure for it doesn't look 
big enough for such an application.

Any idea?  What value?
