YG-ZB.  There's a Ret Cdr Collins in these parts I've 'interviewed' on
the ASB... and this carrier-finder system too.  Looks like each
squadron had 2 planes sith a ZB.

The Pilot on each had to know CW & be equipped with the locator table
b4 takeoff.  Dead simple system that was top secret thru 60s - USN
planes cud find carriers in bad wx, other side cudn't

System was never used on by Collins since he & his SBD became island-based.

So how many planes in a squadron?  Seven - like men in a squad?

And what's in a ZB, four acorn tubes?  I bet no spares, they just
threw 'em over the side if they quit.

Collins was a user.  And he was agog when I told him how system worked.  
I bet that though it's declassified, 'way fewer people now could explain 
ZB-YG operation than there were in 1949.
