If my memory serves correctly this is Hallicrafters and looks very similar
to village radio used during the Vietnam war supplied to the locals

That logo on the front looks kinda like an early Heathkit logo. Or is that 
a Hallicrafters logo? If it is Heath, this could be an early Heath product? 
Could be a kit product hammered together out of surplus parts much like the 
first Heath 'scope and other kits? Any Heathkit experts out there on the 
earliest product lines agree? I can't think of any Hallicrafters products 
anywhere like this thing.

It is indeed curious and it is too late to cogitate much further lest I 
drop over.
