March '44 "Electronics" magazine has some photos of Navy air radio positions, mostly already
frequently seen in many places, but-

1) PBM - this is the same photo shown on cover of a 1945 "CQ" mag - was it June?
anyway, the photo here is less cropped, includes 2/3 of the GO transmitter to the
operator's right, on the starboard side of the ship, operator facing outside, using
a "mill", 2 RAX's, one above, on rack, one at operator's level, to his left.
Also looks like DZ ( judging by squared off, 3-piece handles on front panel ) on
top level shelf at far left. And maybe the bottom of some loop control unit attached
to the ceiling above the DZ - maybe 12-14 inches above the DZ ?

2) two photos of (probably) PBY position -
one with RU and ARB rec's, with LM between, GO to operator's left, operator has
goatee beard and wearing short sleeve shirt

other photo, op is in leather jacket and life vest, wearing flight helmet, rec's are both
RU with local tune knob, LM between, what looks like bottom of DU unit on shelf
above, wire from LM going up to DU.
These two guys are not equiped with mills. ( caps-only typewriters )

3) "Radio operator's position in a Naval Air Transport cargo plane. Soundproofing
material insulates the compartment from the roar of the twin Cyclone engines."
( What aircraft is this? Must be a standard all-forces C-?? )
No window visible anywhere in compartment. BC-348 is against one wall ( judging
from curvature of airframe skeleton ) Some kind of unit about 8 x 8 inches mounted
on wall above -348, has one meter, two connectors on front panel bottom 2-3 knobs
and 1 switch. To operator's left, at 90 degrees to to BC-348 and aircraft wall, is a
BC-348, on shelf at same level as BC-348. Op is wearing Navy white uniform and
wearing one of those HS-33 ( ??? ) headsets with natural leather color headbands, and
using a T-17. The BC-348 has something taped to the tube cover panel, reminds me of
splotchy tube cover panels you see on some surplus BC-348. This one looks like a big
"Band-Aid", i mean white about 1 x 2 inches with something like tape on both sides.
Call sign reminder???
