[Milsurplus] Screwed by Canada Post ?? HELP !!

John,

The situation is obviously complicated by the International Border.  But the 
rule is to use the value in play when the item was lost or destroyed.  I.e., 
the selling price from the last owner to the next owner it was being shipped to 
when they lost it (unless the declared value for customs purposes was 
deflated, in which case one of you are out of luck).  The seller and/or buyer are out 
that amount, not what the vendor paid for it or for the raw materials and 
labor to build it.  I assume that you paid for the insurance.  Can you file the 
insurance claim from your end?  If so, the value in play is what you paid for 
it (you'll need an invoice, obviously).
