Dave,
Prior to about mid-43 and the beginning of the shift from Hi-Z to Lo-Z
Interphone systems, the headset used was the HS-18 with two 4000 ohm R-14 Receivers
and a short wye-cord terminated in PL-54. Later it was the HS-38, same cord
except for red PL-354 but two 300 ohm ANB-H-1 Receivers. Length of the cord
drop varied from 6" to 18" depending upon variables I never pinned down. These
two headsets have no headbands. The receivers are mounted and secured in the
holes in the side of the helmet, not supported by a headband. The similar
(same receivers) HS-23 and HS-33 using HB-7 Headbands cannot be converted (other
than just robbing the Receivers) or intalled in a tanker helmet. The cordage
in an HB-7 is sewn into the leather cover.
I'm not an expert on WW-II tanker helmets so won't comment on the vintage of
the one shown. But the headset-boom microphone set shown is later, probably
Korean war vintage. And the WW-II helmets weren't painted, or at least none
that I ever saw were..
