This is what I'm wondering, too. Is it possible that all of those nice
RB* sets were already installed pretty much covered the HF need and
the 'pairing' shown in the manual is there merely for new/'clean'
installations having no gear? Either that or specific installations?
Perhaps the RAK/RAL were installed first, then the RAL was later
removed? Seems like it would be a lot easier just to add in another
receiver to an existing station than to tear out good gear just for
the sake of it. Not that this ever stopped the military from doing so.

The vast majority of models I've seen in RAK or RAL have been -7
versions. A nice Magnavox RAL-8 to match my RAK sold on epay last year
for a lot more than I expected (or could afford). It's the only one
I've seen. Might have seen 1-2 of the -6 models, too.

My RAK-8 is like new inside, with paint chips on the outside, and is
also missing the top half of its strain relief! Where do they go??
