Some of the older editions of the ARRL's book "How to become a
Radio Amateur" have a photo with the caption, "Would you like
to talk direct with the owner of this fine station in Japan?". I see
this also in the 1973 edition, which makes me think this is a long-
used photo. The receiver the gentleman is using, which in the photo
is right behind the bug key, is the WW2, "Ground-Air Receiver
Type 2". Uses plug in coils for about 150 - 13,000 kHz (if i recall
correctly). ( I kinda doubt any Japanese ham was using this as
a station receiver much past the 1950s.) -Hue Miller
