The coils for a potential retuning of the RAK to higher freqs could be
created new. There is certainly enuff room in the coil shields.
There was a German army 4-tube regen that covered 100 - 7100 kHz that
after the war was used by German hams, who removed the LF coils and
modified the unit to tune up to 20 meters. ( This is the Torn E.b. - there
are 2 of these on Ebay right now - altho the years of manufacture, 1943
and ( i think i recall ) 1944 - are problematical in that from 1943 on most
of their ground radios went to a lowgrade alloy which likes to disintegrate
and weighs twice as much as the pre-1943 radio. )
One odd thing i saw was an ad in a postwar Radio News, somewhere in
1947-1950 range, an ad for the RAK only, and factory-new. I wonder
how they came to have the RAK surplus only?? Price was $49.50,
which was pretty good bucks then. -Hue Miller
