Aircraft phone patches on NavyMars "Afloat Net" circuits are allowed as
they are a natural fit with the ship patches. In recent years we have had
the helo pilots (attached to ships) call home while they were on patrol
away from their home ship. When aboard ship the pilots could use the
recent AT&T satellite pay-phones, but not when in the aircraft. (If AT&T
can find a way to put sat pay-fones in helos, they will!) :-)
Interesting characteristic of HF helo patches is the "rotor modulation" on
their SSB signal as the blades interfere with the HF antenna radiation.
