In the first Desert War, 10 years or so ago, some ham
in New Jersey made the news by saying he was copying
our planes over Iraq as they were getting landing
instructions. That's a good trick because they all
use UHF. Some of our transport aircraft, while on
their way back to the ZI, put up phone patches on
MARS frequencies. (They're not supposed to do that.)
Also, these aircraft made phone patches to their
operational headquarters via McDill. The Jersey
ham could have some of this, and didn't know what
it was.
