Well, interesting in the comments received. I thought I'd try my idea of ac in place of dc option regarding the vibrator. 

Yes, its works. Feeding 12v ac (50 Hz) across the v-0-v winding used by the vibrator produced full ht for the set. Seems this may be an easy option after all. The centre tap on the vib primary goes to the (old) 12v +, so this needs lifting and taping off, the 12v ac feeds the heaters as standard and the only additions are a diode in series with each relay, and of course, if placed the right way around the set could go back to 12v dc without mishap. 

As most of the sets here have their own psu, even if its a 12v feed, then a separate box, clearly labelled A.C. O/P and for this set, a ZC1 Mk1 by the way, and I think we have another "working" shelf candidate.
