[Milsurplus] Interphone question

On most aircraft I have flown the interphone only allowed you to talk within 
the aircraft. There is a switch so you can go hot mike and a selector switch 
for the radio's most positions were receive only except the Pilots and Nav. 
In some aircraft the UHF radio could be selected for  transmit for the 
engineer.
