[Milsurplus] rotary inverter

I've had an unusual experience with dynamotors, they were new
D-401? dynamotors, 12VDC in / 400-450 out at 180mA. I got them
from Fair radio, still sealed in the cartons.

I built a car stereo power amp
(http://www.montagar.com/~patj/tubeart.htm) and discovered that
when I used the amp, the dynamotors emitted a sort of nasty
smell. It was not overheating, nor ozone, but an odd
chemical-like small, which was kind of nauseating after a while.
I thought it was unhealthy. In the summer with the windows up and
A/C on, it got prety bad. The amp was mounted behind the driver
seat in a van. I had serviced the bearings before use, etc.. so
I have no idea what. I have never smelled this on an old used
dynamotor. Could it have been the brushes wearing in and I was
inhaling the smell of that? Real wierd.

Anyone have a similar experience or know what kind of odor that
is/was?

On another Fair Radio note, I wish they'd put the dynamotor
ratings on the dynamotor page, so you could see what you were
selecting from. The prices look good.
