Didn't think I was gonna contribute to this thread but just remembered
a worthy happening

About 1956 I was in my h-s sophomore year at a rickety downtown
Cincinnati victorian 4-story bldg.

One late morning, the principal came over the PA in his imperious,
condescending voice about how the school will perform in the afternoon
siren-announced CD test.  The scratchy 30s PA emphasized his tone
of authority.

Only advice was assume fetal position under the 'paddle' of your
chair-desk.  And if you didn't fit, do same in aisle.

Return to classwork upon sounding of all-clear

He stated this would be the ONLY time the school would participate in
such a test.  He went further to say that should the sirens be heard
again, continue with classwork unless he informed student body over
PA that he had personally seen THE RUSSIAN BOMBER.

Note not a formation, but THE RUSSIAN BOMBER.
