Hah ...
Thanks Sam -- that site is great.
I thought I was exaggerating about being completely safe if you duck and
cover under a table or desk, but I'm playing the Bert The Turtle radio
program right now and the wise announcer assures just that. "in case the
atom bomb explodes near us" and "you can tell it's an atom bomb if you can
see the bright flash which is brighter than the sun" or words to that
effect. Right.
Plenty of "duck" .. electric organ souns or Rootie Kazootie slide flute and
"cover" and more slide flute. Oh sheesh .. "it can be fun". ... like a
flash -- that means ... duck and cover. ... do what your parents and
teachers tell you to do -- and don't get excited and don't run ..."
<sigh> I wonder what was the purpose of that. Of course, a few years
earlier (5 or 6 years) when I was born ('46) I had what the doctors thought
was an enlarged thyroid. They hung a radium pendant around my neck to treat
it. Later on, we learned that many newborns have enlarged thyroids for a
few days or weeks and they downsize by themselves. But, maybe I built up
some resistance, so when that flash comes, I will survive if I just "duck
and cover" while everyone around me (who can see the flash) will be
vaporized down to the bone.
They had some strange ideas.
You gotta go on that site and play the radio program. It's a hoot!
I wasn't exaggerating - didn't even come close.
Barry
