I think any competent navigator could direct his bomber
from Moscow to Chicago, but the purpose of EBS was to
deny a tool. Why dig out the sextant and take star or
sun shots, when you could just DF WLS?
Certainly can't say whether or not it would have
been effective, or whether the disruption in
broadcast services to the public would have
caused more problems, but sure am glad we
never had to find out.
I remember the Conelrad days, we had to run weekly tests
where we would turn off the aural carrier(I work for a
TV station)for 5 seconds, on for 5, off for 5 then back
on with a 1000 cycle tone.
