[Milsurplus] Conversion info needed

IIRC, Central Electronics actually built and sold
a VFO built on the BC-458 or maybe it was the
BC-457. It had a new dial and cabinet, but it
was definitely based on the BC-45x.

I really suspect they used the 457 covering
4.0-5.3 MHz. They only used the 5.0-5.3
portion. With the SSB signal generated by
the phasing method at 9 MHz, that range
gave 4.0-3.7 on 80m and 14-14.3 on 20m.
The 14.3-14.35 segment in those days was
exclusively DX territory. US phone band was
14.2-14.3 only.

SSB started on 80/75m just below 4.0 MHz.
Therefore, to get maximum use of the band,
LSB was chosen. When LSB was chosen for
80m, it required the SSB signal to be generated
as USB at 9 MHz. Without changing anything,
that put 20m output on USB. This is supposed
to be how the USB at 20 and up and LSB at
40 and down came about.

I built the W2EWL "Cheap and Easy S.S.B." rig on
a BC-457 way back in 1962 in Sacramento, CA.
I never figured out how to get the unwanted
sideband out of the 9 MHz section, but it worked
just great on DSB. If other stations didn't check
the other side, they never knew.

It is my understanding that the Central Electronics 20A was offered with
detailed conversion information for using the BC-458 at the VFO. Anyone know
where I might find a copy of that conversion info?
