The quotes are from an article in the current SEA CLASSICS magazine
which itself is apparently serializing this from a longer manuscript:

"Extracts from "The Six Long Years", which is the naval autobiography of George
John Sallet. Past Commander of The Pearl Harbor Attack Veterans and Chairman
of Operation Return 1961, the 20th anniversary of the attack. George now lives in
Clearwater, FL. with his wife who comes from Plymouth, England. George Sallet
served aboard the destroyer USS Bagley, DD386, between June 1941 and June 1946
in the Pacific. I found his first-hand account of these years completely absorbing
and I am only sorry that no publisher has seen fit to print it. In compiling these
extracts I have done a little editing just to condense the text. At the time of this first
extract he was 19 years old. "

This can be found in some 20 chapters at

http://www.cronab.demon.co.uk/sallet.htm

If you have time, this is the real thing, sea action WW2. One example, firing the 16 inch guns
at Japanese planes, and bring down a bunch of them! Enjoy.
