Mark -

The Hammarlund item appears to be a capacitor. The 1000 marking on the
Isolantine insulator is probably the value in pf. 73 - Mike

Subject: [Milsurplus] RAK mods ID needed

A few weeks ago I got a nice RAK receiver. After I started digging into it I
find some mods have been done. An obvious one is that there are two wires
cut from the AVC switch that are now dangling. In it's place is some red
wire whose route tells me it is NOT standard. What's weird is that the mod
wire is the same as used in quite a few places in this RAK. God I hope
that's not an indication of a lot of modifications. I think more likely
someone had some of the same wire.

I'm hoping that someone here who is familiar with the RAK (and/or RAL
maybe?) can look over some of the pictures and let me know what you see as
far as original vs new wiring. Or anything else for that matter. It would
save me a bunch of time ringing out the stuff and highlighting the
schematic.

There are three pages of thumbnails. You can click on each thumbnail for a
much larger version. Use your back button to return to the thumbnail page.
Here are the pages:

MAIN PAGE - Nothing too interesting, just an overview of the radio and power
supply

TOP PAGE - Top side of chassis. Nothing drastic here.

BOTTOM PAGE - Bottom side of chassis. Here is where I get worried.

ANTENNA PAGE - Just a few shots of the Hammarlund "Isolastite" antenna
gadget.
What the heck is that?

Thanks so much to everyone who can give me their thoughts on what they see.
