Yes, that's exactly what happened to that area.
When I was in high school one of the seniors brought a bunch of us down
there to take a look. I remember going in and there was a staircase up to
the second floor with lots of radar stuff. I tried to get back there but
never got to before they were gone and always regretted it. Sometime later
I was told most of that equipment was considered hazardous due to the PCB
oil used in the caps and transformers but that it was unknown what happened
to everything.
Nowadays you just can't find places like that.
