I recall that there was a very complete article about German electronics in WW2 in an early issue of IEEE Spectrum back in the 60s, just after AIEE and IRE merged and they quit sending Proceedings to all the members.  If anyone with a better memory than mine can come up with the issue number/date, we could all be better informed about these beams and the like.  If someone does have the date, I do have access to a good technical library which should have the publication.
