Was this beam-intercept dealy same as "X-gerat.?"  Seems so.

Some great & possibly true tales surround.

 - Cornish farmers were dumbfounded as to why Junkers bombers were 
   pounding their fields at night

 - Every Halli S-27 vhf rx in NYC was bought by British 'agents' in
   1940 (think "X-gerat" ran ~40mhz & hence in S27's tuning range.  
   Freya radars & later DL-tank radios there too)
