Hank is right, it was the old 707s which had the probe and the 8s had a clean tail.  It made me think how bloody long ago it was I used to squint at them through the dirty windows at Love Field to tell one from the other, before DFW was even a glint in any real estate developers greedy eye.

The C-5 has a short blunt probe which doesn't look long enough to me to do any good.
