[Milsurplus] 51J-2

The R-388 is essentially the same as the 51J-3. The R-390 is a very
different receiver. I had a 51J-2 for many years that I had rescued from the
junkyard and restored with the help of the manuals from Collins.
Unfortunately I no longer have the references and I don't remember that much
about it. One difference was that the R-388 and 51J-3 had 3 Collins
mechanical filters (0.5, 3.1, and 6.0 KHz), perhaps as an option. The 51J-2
had a crystal filter. They were otherwise very similar. Great receivers, and
much better at band scanning than the R-390, as one didn't have to drag a
mechanical counter along as one tuned. Also much lighter in weight. They
were essentially general coverage (0.5 - 30.5 MHz) versions of the Collins
75A receivers.
